Focuses on the changing notions of the masculine and the feminine through such historical episodes as the Reformation, the Enlightenment, the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution. Themes include women's position in Islamic law, society and culture, Western images of Muslim women, veiling and Islamist movements, theoretical readings on power, gender and agency.
