    This course provides the student with opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge, skills, and behaviors in the role of a medical assistant in ambulatory settings. The student is required to complete practicum hours in a?designated healthcare agency. Weekly classroom activities are designed to assist the student in transitioning to the professional workplace. Preparation for the certification examination and assessment of job readiness are emphasized. A cleared criminal background check and drug screen are required prior to practicum experiences.     This course is designed to provide the student with credentialing required by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Electronic Health Records Incentive Programs. Emphasis is placed on providing diverse topics relevant for Medical Assistants who use electronic health records. This course provides the ongoing education required for currently practicing Medical Assistants to be credentialed in meaningful use and other key topics of the job role.
