    Wilderness First Aid is an intense course designed to provide the student with the skills, knowledge, confidence and ability to provide a high level of care to persons who have suffered injury and/or illness in remote locations. This course also prepares the student to function, without the assistance of qualified medical personnel, with a minimal amount of equipment , and in outdoor locations complicated by adverse weather and non-sterile environments.     Wilderness First Aid & Survival is a hands-on course designed to provide the student with the skills, knowledge, confidence, and ability to accomplish two primary tasks: provide high level of care to persons who have suffered injury and/or illness in remote locations and survive a variety of emergency situations in adverse wilderness conditions. You'll learn the Patient Assessment System (PAS), how to provide effective first aid treatments for injuries and illnesses common in the outdoors, and how to make appropriate evacuation decisions.     Learn to travel and recreate responsibly and sustainably on our public lands. Students will learn and teach the principles of Leave No Trace and advance their personal minimum-impact recreation skills through science-based, hands-on learning. Students will engage in discussions around outdoor ethics and develop a deeper understanding of their personal ethics around land use and stewardship. In addition to the practical application of Leave No Trace skills and techniques, every student will hone their teaching style by presenting a lesson and activity on a Leave No Trace topic of their choice.     The management of real and perceived risks is a conerstone of Outdoor Recreation. This course is an integrated approach to risk management in the field of outdoor recreation, focusing on negligence, accident process, risk management plans and post-incident management. Students will gain practice in documentation, reporting, and emergency communications through case studies and practical scenarios, as well as learn best practices for teaching participants about managing inherent risks.
