This course explores and analyzes the philosophical foundations and practical applications of community-based corrections and the social, legal, and political forces that shape these philosophies and practices. The primary focus is on probation, parole (supervision, fines, diversion, restitution, and community centers), and other community-based program strategies for dealing with the criminal offender, such as at release centers, halfway houses, and the ramifications of community-based correctional programs, including economic, legal, and societal.
