Students will gain and apply knowledge of the general principles of pharmacology, basic terminology, drug action, dosage, adverse reactions, and drug toxicity of medications utilized in the treatment of patients with respiratory disorders and diseases. This course is offered in the fall semester. Prerequisite: Admission to the Respiratory Therapy Program. Prerequisite:    Currently Not Available Corequisite:    Currently Not Available
  • 3.00 Credits

This course builds on the foundational concepts that students learned in Respiratory Therapy I. In this course, students will explore more advanced concepts of respiratory therapy modalities including respiratory failure, arterial blood gas analysis,?and airway care. The student pays an additional course fee. This course is offered in the spring semester. Prerequisite:    Currently Not Available Corequisite:    Currently Not Available
  • 1.00 Credits

This course is the laboratory section of Respiratory Therapy II. Students will apply more advanced concepts in respiratory skills and simulate scenarios including respiratory failure, arterial blood gas analysis and airway care. The student pays an additional lab fee. This course is offered in the spring semester. Prerequisite:    Currently Not Available Corequisite:    Currently Not Available
  • 5.00 Credits

This course provides supervised practicum clinical experience in Respiratory Therapy working directly with patients to practice and refine skills learned in the previous classroom and laboratory settings. Students will rotate to clinical sites to practice the intermediate skills of respiratory therapy including respiratory failures, arterial blood gas analysis, and airway care under the direct supervision of licensed respiratory therapists. This course is offered in the summer semester. Prerequisite:    Currently Not Available Corequisite:    Currently Not Available
  • 3.00 Credits

Students will learn ventilator classification, methods, principles and operational characteristics of equipment. Students will apply theory and techniques with various equipment involved in the initiation, maintenance, and discontinuation of mechanical ventilation used to manage adult patients. Laboratory experiences will provide a variety of simulations with various equipment to correlate lecture content with practical application. This course will have a lab fee. This course will be offered in the spring semester. Prerequisite:    Currently Not Available Corequisite:    Currently Not Available
  • 2.00 Credits

Students will complete?a detailed review of cardiopulmonary disorders and disease pathology and the role of respiratory therapy in the management of these diseases. ?Students will correlate the diagnostic testing and treatment modalities of respiratory care to these disease processes. This will allow students to integrate respiratory assessment and treatment of the cardiopulmonary disease states as well as the physiologic response to cardiopulmonary diseases. This course is offered in the spring semester. Prerequisite:    Currently Not Available Corequisite:    Currently Not Available
  • 3.00 Credits

This course builds on the concepts that students learned in Respiratory Therapy I and II. In this course, students will learn additional critical care concepts of respiratory therapy including advanced ventilation modalities, ventilator graphics, troubleshooting the patient-ventilation system, ventilator adjustments to achieve optimal ventilation and oxygenation and non-conventional modes of mechanical ventilation. The student pays an additional course fee. This course is offered in the fall semester. Prerequisite:    Currently Not Available Corequisite:    Currently Not Available

Students?will focus on the principles of care for the pediatric and neonatal patient with respect to respiratory-related diseases or abnormalities. Students will review anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and assessment of the pediatric and neonatal patients and their application to cardiopulmonary abnormalities and diseases. Students will also be introduced to perinatal and prenatal respiratory care concepts. This course is offered in the fall semester. Prerequisite:    Currently Not Available Corequisite:    Currently Not Available
