Principles of immunology theory, blood group systems, genetics, and immunohematology techniques. Procedures including evaluation of blood samples, pretransfusion compatibility testing, and transfusion reactions are studied. Serologic testing and problem-solving in antibody identification and complex procedures are stressed. Laboratory emphasizes modern practices, resolution of compatibility problems and advanced antibody identification methods.Prerequisites: Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) certification or completion of an AS degree in medical laboratory technician within last 5 years.
