After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, cities virtually disappeared from Western Europe. Around 1000 Europe began its rise to world prominence and cities contributed to that rise. Examines development of cities in medieval Europe and explores life within those cities. Dual listed with HIST 5112. Prerequisite: HIST 1110, 2100, 4100 or 4110.
