Description:
The student sonographer learns the basic concepts of acoustical physics, sound wave characteristics, sound-tissue interaction, ultrasound power and intensity as it applies to diagnostic medical sonography with emphasis placed on the concepts of sound reflection. The student sonographer integrates the use of Doppler physics and the application of Doppler techniques along with equipment manipulations and instrumentation and ultrasound propagation principles. The student sonographer demonstrates competency in transducer selection, use, setting scanning parameters, and interactive properties of ultrasound in human tissue as well as quality control instrumentation. Prerequisite: Completion of ZOO 2015 and ZOO 2025 (minimum 6 hours) or equivalent, PHYS 1050 or equivalent, and MATH 1400 or equivalent.
