The student sonographer completes an introduction to the profession of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, its history, future, professional groups and accrediting bodies, and the relationship between the sonographer and the patient. The student sonographer appropriately follows the role of the sonographer in the health care team using ethical and legal principles, providing patient care techniques, and follows OSHA requirements, universal standards, and federal regulations. The student sonographer correctly uses and applies appropriate medical terminology to be able to discuss the various health care issues facing the imaging field in ultrasound. The student sonographer integrates ultrasound principles in relationship to the pathological process and anatomical relationships of organs and vessels using and applying diagnostic ultrasound. The student sonographer learns anatomy, pathology, and beginning scanning techniques for abdomen and the gravid and non gravid pelvis. Prerequisite: Completion of ZOO 2015 and ZOO 2025 (minimum 6 hours) or equivalent, PHYS 1050 or equivalent, and MATH 1400 or equivalent.
